Beauty by Dolly debuted in San Diego in 2005, the brainchild of Dolly Bakshai and Kashmira Torki, sisters who learned the art of threading and sugaring as teenagers in India and Iran. After moving to the U.S. and working at various San Diego spas, the sisters saw an opportunity to bring threading and sugaring to the community. Armed with a decades-old sugar wax recipe passed down from Dolly’s great aunt (also named Dolly!), they knew that three simple ingredients—sugar, water, and lemon juice—are all you need for clean, hygienic, and thorough hair removal.

Since launching, they’ve opened a second studio in Hillcrest, been featured in magazines like InStyle, and developed their own line of products including brow powders and their signature sugar wax.

Beauty by Dolly is committed to making their studios a sanctuary, so when clients settle into their chairs, they can—if even for just 10 minutes—step away from the worries of their day-to-day, enjoy personalized, high-quality service, and leave feeling confident and comfortable in their skin.
