Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS A KERATIN LASH INFUSION (AKA KERTAIN LASH LIFT)
Our keratin lash lift creates beautifully lifted lashes that are longer, fuller, and stronger. The treatment increases the volume in the diameter of each lash by 40%. Unlike other lash lift products, our Keratin Infusion closes and seals the full lash, so there will be no frizziness or odd shaped lashes. Our superior lash lift provides lasting quality results.
HOW LONG DOES A LASH LIFT LAST?
Depending on the length and quality of your natural lashes, the lift can last for 6 to 8 weeks.
IS A LASH LIFT LIKE A LASH EXTENSION?
Lash extensions and lash lifts are two totally different procedures. We will not be adding any additional lashes to you, we’re simply curling your natural lashes. That said, for most, it can make your lashes appear fuller because they are so uplifted.
WHAT ARE THE POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS?
Pretty simple: Do not get your lashes wet and apply an oil based products to the lashes for the first 24 hours.
CAN I BOOK A LASH LIFT ON THE SAME DAY AS A FACIAL?
Absolutely, just make sure your facialist doesn’t get your lashes wet.
IS THERE ANY MAINTENANCE AFTER THE LIFT?
None at all! You don’t have to do anything special with your lashes in between lifts.
CAN I STILL WEAR MASCARA?
Of course! You’ll just achieve a more dramatic effect when mascara is applied to your curled lashes.
HOW IS THIS TREATMENT DIFFERENT FROM A LASH PERM?
Some of the lash perms of years past use tiny little rods that produce an inverted curl. Others, use a type of lash curler/clamp which can be uncomfortable and difficult to work with. The methods we employ use silicon domed shields that lift the lashes from the root, producing a beautiful, uplifted look as if you used a high quality eyelash curler
WILL THIS DAMAGE MY EYELASHES?
This is not your ordinary lift. The Keratin Lash Infusion patented process infuses REAL KERATIN into each lash, strengthening and volumizing them. Instead of leaving lashes dehydrated and frizzy, they are left stronger and lifted.
ARE THERE ANY LASHES THAT ARE RESISTANT TO CURL?
We have found, on occasion, that it’s very difficult and sometimes not possible to sustain the curl with lashes that have a strong cowlick or slanted growth pattern. Also, growth patterns due to plastic surgery in the eye area are often not able to be corrected. We suggest giving the treatment a shot once and seeing how your lashes hold the curl.
IS A LASH LIFT PAINFUL?
No. At first, when we’re applying the shields to the eyelids, it may feel a bit strange. But, for the most part, it’s very relaxing! You just kick back and relax.
I USE LATISSE®. CAN I GET THIS TREATMENT?
Yes. Some of the most dramatic results achieved have been from those using Latisse® because their lashes are already so long.
I HAVE DOWNWARD POINTING LASHES - WILL THIS BE A GOOD TREATMENT FOR ME?
Absolutely. Anyone with these types of pesky lashes will love the lash lift! Post-treatment your lashes will all be evenly dispersed and lifted.
I HAVE VERY SHORT LASHES - WILL THIS TREATMENT STILL WORK?
Most of the time, yes. Though it can be challenging if the lashes aren’t even long enough to bring up and back onto the shield. But we suggest giving it a shot once and seeing how you do!
I HAVE GLAUCOMA, CAN I HAVE THIS TREATMENT?
Yes. If ever in doubt, always consult with your physician.
I'VE RECENTLY HAD LASIK, CAN I HAVE THIS TREATMENT?
Yes, but you need to wait at least 6 months. As always, when in doubt, please consult with your physician.
WHO IS THIS PROCEDURE NOT GOOD FOR?
Chronic dry eye, conjunctivitis, damaged lashes or lashes with gaps (this treatment may make the gaps more noticeable), active eye infections of any kind, trichotillomania (habitual pulling out of lashes), recent chemo treatments (you will need to wait at least a year from your last treatment.) When in doubt, always consult with your physician.
WHAT IS THREADING?
Threading is an ancient form of hair removal, originating from the Middle East. We believe it started from the time of Cleopatra. It is a 100% natural form of hair removal performed on the eyebrows and face (and also after sugaring to get rid of those pesky stray hairs!). The threading specialist takes a piece of 100% cotton thread, twirls it around the fingers and is able to remove the targeted hair from the root. Eyebrows can be shaped to perfection, and face can be perfectly de-fuzzed, leaving you feeling fresh faced with smooth skin.
HOW LONG DOES THREADING LAST?
Threading can last anywhere from 3-6 weeks depending on your personal hair growth. Since threading removes the hair from the root, it lasts longer than other forms of hair removal such as tweezing or shaving.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET THREADING DONE?
Normally, clients wait anywhere between 3-4 weeks for threading sessions. However, all this depends on your personal hair growth and what you feel comfortable with. Threading removes the tiniest and finest of hairs so even if you need to come in for a quick clean-up before a party, or just to keep yourself feeling fresh, you can come in as often as you’d like.
CAN I TWEEZE IN-BETWEEN THREADING SESSIONS?
No, we do not recommend tweezing or waxing between threading sessions. Threading slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner thus making it easier to remove and less painful when threaded. Tweezing just one time in between will reverse all that is achieved from threading and can further irritate follicles which can cause hair to become ingrown, coarser, and darker.
``BUT MY HAIR GROWS IN EVERY DAY! I COULDN'T POSSIBLY WAIT 3 WEEKS TO COME IN AGAIN!``
Many clients that come in for the first time after tweezing for years say, “I’m so hairy! My hair grows out every single day” – that isn’t true.
Tweezing simply disrupts your natural hair growth phase because many times, people are tweezing every single day. However, once you allow all your hair to get on a cycle, you will see that your hair grows in more evenly, slowly, and you will only need to get threaded once every 3-4 weeks.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT TO GET THREADED AFTER TWEEZING?
We recommend waiting 3-4 weeks between tweezing or waxing to get threaded. It takes time for the hair to grow out each of the 3 cycles. If you come in prematurely you may not achieve a desirable result.
WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK DARKER OR THICKER AFTER THREADING?
No, your hair will never grow in thicker or darker after threading. Since threading removes the hair from the root, your hair will become finer and softer over time.
CAN THREADING BE PERFORMED ON THE WHOLE FACE?
Yes, threading can be performed, and is the preferred method for hair removal on the face. It is a 100% natural, non-abrasive form of hair removal, so you’ll never have to worry about burning, pigmentation, or pulling on your skin.
In fact, many of our clients feel that a full face threading is their version of a mini facial.
CAN THREADING BE PERFORMED ON YOUR WHOLE BODY?
Although threading can be performed on the whole body, is it definitely not the preferred method of hair removal for such large areas. For the body, we perform sugaring, which is less painful and a more time efficient for larger areas. Post sugaring, we thread over the freshly waxed area to get rid of the pesky stray hairs that linger.
DOES THREADING HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
No, since threading is 100% natural, there are little to no side effects. Those with ultra-sensitive skin may experience redness. Those who are trying threading for the first time may experience minimal irritation. In this case, we recommend using a cold compress on the affected area.
We always provide our first time clients with detailed aftercare instructions as well.
CAN THREADING BE PERFORMED ON SOMEONE WHO IS USING A TOPICAL OR ORAL ACNE SKIN-THINNING MEDICATION?
Absolutely. Threading can be performed on any type of skin including people who are taking Accutane, using antibiotics, or using Retin-A. Since threading is 100% natural, you do not have to worry about reactions to the skin.
I HAVE SUCH BLONDE BROWS & PEACH FUZZ ON MY FACE, IT IS NEARLY NON-EXISTENT, WOULD THREADING STILL WORK FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME?
Fret not!-threading your brows and shaping them actually brings them to life! Once you get them done they will look thicker, fuller, and darker. Even if the peach fuzz on your face is invisible, threading the face allows makeup to glide on and give the skin a flawless look.
I KNOW YOUR WEBSITE SAYS YOU TAKE WALK-INS FOR THREADING, BUT I’M IN A RUSH, CAN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR MY EYEBROWS?
No. Eyebrow threading is always on a walk in basis. Any other a la carte face threading services are also on a walk in basis. The only threading service that requires an appointment is a full face threading. You can make an appointment by calling either one of our locations.
CAN MEN GET THEIR EYEBROWS DONE?
Absolutely. We have a very large male clientele and our eyebrow artists are trained how to clean up and shape male brows to your preference. Visit our services section for more information!
WHAT IS SUGARING?
Sugaring is an ancient technique that also dates back to the time of Cleopatra. It is a 100% natural form of wax that is made out of sugar, water, and lemon juice. We know that sugaring or sugar waxing is much gentler on the skin than traditional waxing, because the sugar only adheres to the hair and not to the skin. Also, sugaring is known to hurt less because it’s used at room temperature and it never burns or takes off the first layer of skin.
IS SUGARING AND WAXING PERFORMED THE SAME WAY?
Yes, sugaring is applied with a wooden spatula and removed with a linen strip.
Our sugar wax vs. traditional sugar waxing differs because we do not use the “ball method” of sugaring where the same ball of wax is used to remove all the hair from the desired area.
IS SUGARING BETTER FOR MY SKIN THAN WAXING?
Sugaring is definitely better for all skin types. Especially for skin that is extremely sensitive, or for someone who is using medication that can make the skin extremely sensitive, sugaring is your best and safest bet. Due to its natural properties, it causes little or no reaction.
HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR NEED TO BE BEFORE I COME IN FOR WAXING OR SUGARING?
We recommend that the hair is at least a quarter of an inch long (about the length of a grain of rice). Your hair should be able to lay flat on the skin. If you are worried about it being too long, don’t worry, our waxpert will make sure to trim it down to the right length.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO GET WAXED OR SUGARED?
We recommend making an appointment every 4-6 weeks to make sure we are hitting every hair growth cycle.
WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE OF SUGARING/WAXING/THREADING?
After getting hair removal at Beauty by Dolly, you should be (hair free!) and have minimal to no side effects. However, a small percentage of clients with ultra-sensitive skin do experience more irritation than average. No matter what type of skin you have–our waxperts will always provide you with detailed aftercare to ensure your skin is well taken care of.
CAN I TWEEZE OR SHAVE IN-BETWEEN WAX APPOINTMENTS?
We highly recommend against it. Sugaring and waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner thus making it easier to remove and less painful when sugared. Shaving just one time in between will reverse all that is achieved from sugaring and waxing and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair.
HOW LONG BEFORE A SPECIAL EVENT (I.E. BIRTHDAY OR WEDDING) SHOULD I GET THREADED OR WAXED?
We recommend coming in at least 2-3 days before your special event to get threaded, waxed, or sugared.
DO YOU DO WAXING FOR MALE CLIENTS?
Yes, we do waxing and sugaring for male clients, please visit our services section for more information!
